No. Actually it wasnt. Microsoft has never been generous.

Actually "Deals for Gold" has been a thing for years before PS+, where buying stuff online was at a great discount if you were a gold member.

 Responding to competition or not, they are now. Free games is generous. This isn't about who is more generous: Sony or MS. Just let it go.

So you mean to tell me Deals for gold has existed since before 2010? I had the Xbox 360 before 2010 and it never had those benefits. Every deal with gold benefit is a response to PSN Plus discounts. 

Wow. You really don't want M$ to have any credit at all. There was a time when M$ tried to add value to Gold by offering things the PSN didn't.  It was the only console w/ Netflix, it had newly created avatars, early access to demos, a game called 1 vs. 100, a free game for the fans called Aegis Wing, and special discounts for Gold members.  I'm at work now but I'll Google it when I get home--whatever date PS+ began, I'll show you a Gold members only deal for an earlier date.

It really isn't that big of a deal.  I even personally made a thread of all of the free stuff on XBL years ago.  I distintly remember someone replying that it was bull because M$ doesn't allow free stuff on XBL.
