Pokemon has actually been very forward facing as far as online MP goes. I remember when DP came out on DS when you were battling or trading with others you had the option to either enable or disable voice chat. And this was back in DS days. It would allow for some really cool trades to be set up and some nice battle chatter as well.

XY really look that concept to the next level with the always connected environment you can have. Nintendo should really learn from Gamefreak's innovations on the MP side of pokemon.

Damn straight they should. And with the GamePad having a second screen, a Player Search System for Mario Kart 8 could have been possible during online and offline gaming!
