I mean you have to have a goal in mind of course. But that goal should not be set in stone. As a person on software, its such a tenuous affair. So much can happen at any point in the process to really screw you. I can only imagine the complexity of some of these larger teams for a game as compared to my rather simple (relatively speaking) web apps.
