As for your overpriced comment about there general purpose Mac. The closest they make, that anyone would want to game on, is the 24" IMac. It's $1,800. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883104029
If you put all that together from NewEgg, it would come to $1,610. That's a home built, do it yourself. Putting it all together, and only saving $190 (and it's still missing stuff, like built in Bluetooth, and firewire 800 ports), is not coming in "Much Less". Forget the elegance of the Mac case and simplicity of hookup. It's not to be overlooked. I would never have a desktop in my kitchen, but a iMac I might (I used a MacBook in the kitchen, so no desktop at all).
Anyway, for gaming, there is no better choice then Windows on a home built PC running XP or Vista (I like Vista). I am not arguing that. I am just arguing against putting what Apple has to offer against custom built gaming rigs, when Apple doesn't even try to compete in that market. |
Funny I can build almost the same machine and cost me around 1200 (Only lacks of FireWire)... and with a X1950 PRO (Much better than the 2600) and 2GB of RAM... |
What did you use for: An OS? I used Vista Ultimate. Not as good as OSX, but as close as I could get :p A web cam? A wireless 802.11n card? Bluetooth? (No built in, but at least a USB) A mic (yea, 8 bucks, but still :p) Did you make sure an add a dual layer DVD burner? Did you use an aluminum case? Did you add speakers? None of these things are a lot, but when you add everything that's in the iMac, it adds up. |
Web cam, yes
Wireless nop, but just add $25
Mic nop, just add $8,
Speakers, yes
Aluminum case, yes
Dual DVD burner with Lightscribe, yes
Bluetooth, what another $20 or less??
And vista ultimate, haha... lol...
