Personally, I'm no Buddhist, but I love the Dalai Lama. He's not a slave to religion, even his own. If science can prove something he believes wrong, then he admits that it was wrong and doesn't believe in it. If there is sound reason not to believe in something, he doesn't believe in it even if he did before he heard the reasoning. He doesn't desperately cling to his ideas, and claim everyone who disagrees with him is evil, he admits he was wrong, his beliefs and teachings evolve, and he keeps going.
If he is talking to people of other religious beliefs (or those with no religion) he prefers to focus on discussing principles, philosophies and ways of bettering ourselves and our world rather than preach his beliefs at them. THAT is the kind of religious leader I respect.
