Not really, how can a character be complex and simple ? that doesn't make any sense to me. I can understand some situations require simple or complex reaction, this is normal. But I was saying that the "result" of all that, reactions, traits, motivation..etc which determine the character behavior can't be simple. Hell, we can't even fully understand ourselves, how is that simple ? I have no Idea who Geralt of Rivia is, so I can't comment on that.

There's complexity in being simple; it is no exclusive trait.
And Geralt of Rivia is the main character of both The Witcher games and novels.

A simple guy with a troubled past. He doesn't care about you, nor about himself really (other than staying alive). He hasn't got barely any friends, nor he wants to. He simply exists in times which he doesn't really belong to (think of it as a samurai on XIX Century). He can acomplish a mission which means assassinating someone, only to later kill his contractor because he's about to kill a defendless woman. There's no evolving personality, nor he does really need one.
He's both simple and complex, and you can't really define him by his actions because he's a walking contradiction. But that doesn't make him less of a character, does it?
