What is a character? it is defined by " complex of mental and ethical traits"

I have played Dragon Age, Dragon's Dogma ( amazing game) and tried Mass Effect. I couldn't find any accumulation or real evolving personality. the required complexity to call a character a character just wasn't there. It is not a simple good/evil, noble/asshole matter. the development in those games is very simplified to the point that what defines your character is the short-lived answer, which meant nothing 5 seconds later. It was an empty and oversimplified role from my experince

Do you understand that "simple" and "complex" can be together, right?

Because if you say that a "simple" avatar can't be a character because he isn't complex, then, you're saying, for example, that Geralt of Rivia isn't a character.
