tuscaniman99 said: No it still costs to much for what it is. Smash Bros isn't nearly as big of a game as Mario Kart either. I don't know why people (OP included) think Smash will push a console. Maybe in Japan it might push some WiiUs. Edit: After reading this article it seems a huge Nintendo fanboy wrote it. Who actually believes this? |
What exactly is it?
I can tell you what its not.
Its not a new console from Sony or Microsoft
- thats more of the same stuff.
- With alot more but still insufficient power (resulting in games finally visually on par with a OVER 9000 year old PC game called Crysis in terms of textures/geometry/polycount/scope.) But since mostly bad game design is whats holding us back from getting great games NOT horsepower (ChronoTrigger / FF7 /Xenoblade are better games than 99% of PSWii60's library) lacking in power is irrelevant.
- with online fee because devs and publishers agreed in forcing you to play on official servers. They removed player hosted servers on purpose to have control over the servers and to be able to charge you a fee on hardware
- that already costs 400-500 bucks.
Its also not a stupid "bitten into" fruit phone that costs 500 bucks every year that can do 2% more things than your last still superfast phone can do. I dont see anybody complain about that or Samsung phones costing 500 bucks. (and saying you dont pay for the phone just for the contract is totally dumb. Of course you do the contract without the phone would be like 5-10 bucks.)
So what is it?
- It's a new console by NIntendo it has NOT alot more but still more power which is even more insufficient than the other 2 consoles. But again thats irrelevant.
- It has off-tv play because you get a tablet. Depending on the game you have 5player mode and/or asymetric gameplay etc. It is backwards compatible so its basically 2 consoles.
- You can use all your last gen peripherals so alot of people dont have to buy controllers and it costs 300 dollars
- And you dont need to pay for online play at all
So how exactly does it cost to much for what it is? When you objectively compare it to other consoles or goods its good value. When all what people care for is graphics (which is subjective) then I can somewhat agree but then I wonder why they dont play on a PC?
Because they want to play good games (exclusives etc)? Really? I wonder who said that game design is more important than horse power? Oh yeah right it was me xD
Not saying that graphics are completely irrelevant here but as long as our game designers are forced to work with e.g time constraints like shareholders wanting short term profit which results in publishers forcing devs into releasing a game without enough time to polish it or with playing it safe so there is no new risky or mindblowing new gameplay element etc...all that power is wasted 99% of the time. Instead of coming up with great new games during the last few years publishers became used to getting alot of money without actually doing much. The costs for developing the engine was recouped 4 years ago so lets NOT make something cool lets just get more money out of that engine. So much wasted potential......
Its like having the best camera in the world and all one does is take picutes of the same piece of wall. One should learn how to take proper pictures before asking for better hardware.
