I had the original OLED model, but something went wrong with the battery and it had to be replaced with one of the 2000 models. Having had both, there's quite clearly a difference in colour definition when moving from OLED to LCD. On the other hand, I appreciate how much lighter the new models are, and how much more comfortable they are to use - the back grips are much better proportioned on the new models (something that sounds boring, but is kind of undersold, it was a big improvement for me). I also find the new model easier to clean and I prefer the circular start, select, PS button. The improvement to battery life is also a plus.
So, as someone who had both, I would say if you can handle the downgrade in colour, the other features touted by the slim make it the preferable system to me.
