I feel that Nintendo might get a boost of sales for Mario Kart, but definitely not for Smash Bros.

It was an absolute mistake to sell the 3DS one in summer and Wii U one in winter.

Who's going to want that one when you could've played the same game 6 months ago on the already extremely popular console that costs less?

This thread may go some way to answering that, and suggests that Nintendo's SSB strategy will pay off.

Just read through it.

Still think it's a terrible idea.

And here's why:

So many people who own the 3DS don't have a Wii U. They spend about $40 getting the 3DS version, they play through it for about 6 months challenging friends and unlocking all the characters. Then after about 6 months, their passion for it fades. It's not that they're bored and throw away the game, but maybe they don't play it forever. They go back to their backlog of unfinished games or pick it up every once in a while.

And these people are going to honestly go out and spend $360 on a new console and game just to play it even further and challenge more people?

The people who want to play it will play it all over the summer (when school's out of session and when they can just keep playing it til their eyes bleed), then move on after school has started.

If you can keep loving that game after 6 months of play time, more power to you. But I doubt most people are going to follow suit.

Without wanting to derail this thread discussing the SSB release strategy, here are two threads for your perusal and where the discussion can be continued

Alright then.

I'll go back to the original point:

Mario Kart 8 being the only game for 6 months will boost some sales of Wii U, but not for a long enough time.
