I think it's a mixed of things. Sure the DRM and Pricing fiascos have hurt the Xbox One extraordinarily. But you also have to take into account what the last couple years has been like for the Hardcore Xbox owner. Microsoft spent the latter part of last gen focusing on the casual and kinect-friendly market.
While Sony has spent the better part of last gen repairing the damage they caused themselves when the PS3 launched. Sony had some awesome momentum given to them from games like The Last of Us coming into this Generation.
Which lead to the Xbox One's infrastructure relying so heavily on Kinect.
