| Anfebious said: So? The game was coming either way for the PS3! It's not like the cancelled it... they just expanded the Final Fantasy brand to the Xbox audience. I see nothing wrong with that. Square did worse with Nintendo. They released the first 6 games in Nintendo consoles and then switched to Playstation. With FF XIII Square went from Sony to Sony and Microsoft. With FF VII they went from Nintendo to Sony. It would have been a huge megaton if the internet was more massive at the time it happened. |
No they didn't cancel it though I'm sure there were alot of people that bought a PS3 assuming FF was only going to be on Playstation since they mentioned it was exclusive firstly (Heck I bought a PS3 for FF Versus XIII and that's worst cause I didnt come out that gen lol). Very true that Square did worst to Nintendo with the FF series and if internet was massive back then it would've definitely exploded, but switching from Nintendo to PS did wonders for Square. I don't think turning FF into multiplat helped.
Personally I wonder how sales would've turned out if FFXIII didn't go multiplat. Because of it, the game got delayed that could have caused fans to care less and decide not to pick the game up day1 (as well at the time PS3 didnt have that great of a library so many were eager to get their hands on a blockbuster title). Then with the wait and finally released, the fans read the mixed reviews of the games so some may have still picked up a copy while others just didn't care anymore. As well, PS3's library were much better so there were more options of games to buy over it.
But oh wells, these days nobody should expect third party to make exclusive games anymore.
