Well... for Insominiac I hope it helps them out. And not sure if it was a real hindrance, since they were independent from the beggining. You could actually say they used Sony as a clutch for 10 years, not that Sony hold them hostage.

Oh I agree Insomniac willing took on those franchise which was perhaps foolish.

Both of those games were/are excellent franchises. Especially the Resistance series. Resistance could have sold to a much broader audience had Sony backed the game the way that M$ does for their exclusives.
