Did we REALLY need or want a new generation of consoles?

You say that but this is the first time I agree with the naysayers.  There was always something awe inspiring at launch.  Even the Dreamcast seemed amazing when I first saw what it could do.

a kid getting his first console ,say a WiiU will have his mind blown playing mario this or donky kong that and thus the cycle continues & with it teh warz
