Gaming - Ps3 rumors. - View Post

You can already access Netflix on your PS3 through the browser. I am unsure as to exactly what the benefits would be for any console. With Netflix you can receive up to thirty discs per month, and you have upwards of fifteen hours of free downloads. So where would the profitability for the manufacturers be found.

I rather doubt we will ever see either console offer a portal to Netflix. However if Sony did offer it then chances are Microsoft would not have a choice in the matter. The service is so good that live in comparison is just a joke in poor taste. That could be a real propaganda coup for Sony, and a real disaster for Microsoft. However since both would probably lose profits by doing it. We will probably never see it, but I suppose we can always hope.

Right now Netflix uses a MS driven GUI for it's streaming video application. If it went to something more platform independent, and it could run under Linux, then the PS3 would already do what people want. Sony would have no say in the matter. I don't think it will ever happen. You still can't even stream to Apple due to DRM issues. The movie industry is very particular.
