General - Iraq 5 years later - View Post

Gotta stay until the government gets stable. Not perfect... but stable.

Otherwise the best case scenario is that there is a giant civil war that makes the last 5 years look a picnic.

Worst case scenario, nearly every country in the middle east funds "their" side's rebels leading to a giant catastrophe that fuels bad blood in the region between the countries that might even start another war if Iran's side loses and they decide to just outright invade... or some other country makes a similar move.

The funny thing is the US took out Sadam Hussein just to put in a Pro-Iran government... despite Iran being the US's biggest problem in the region... before the US even invaded Iraq.

Basically bush cracked a few holes in the dike. Then stuck his fingers in the holes and basically didn't say anything.

The next president's choices will be to either do the same and hope something changes, do something similar while shouting for help... or just remove the fingers from the dike and let the whole thing break down and flood us all.

Sadly so far the presidential candidates seem to be going for options 1 and 3.

At least 1 buys you time though.

A lot of the instability is just because Iran knows they can use it to attack out troops, or it seems that way.  Which is kinda short sided on their part since the current Iraqi government is really more Pro Iran then US...

Not sure if they just think our army will never leave or they are planning for a situation where they fund a war to cause disaster and then swoop in and pick up the pieces hanging their former allies out to dry.
