The reason why forces need to stay is to ensure stability. Stability in governement and the stability of the day to day lives of the Iraqi people.
Don't take this as being pro-Hussein regime in any way, but at the time the country was relatively stable. The stability was achieved through brutallity and oppression. Now a new era must be ushered in. One where democracy and humain rights are the corner stones of the stability.
The foundation on which those corner stones lay are shaky. Unfortunately, only a military presence can solidify that foundation. I just wish the miltary presence was better backed by the United Nations.
