I'd start with Totori.  Makes more chronological sense and is still an excellent, excellent game.

I've heard lots of people who love Meruru and quite a few others who don't enjoy it as much.  Haven't played it myself (planning to the next time there's an EU sale) but just finished Totori Plus and it was excellent.

Yep.

But not only because totori is a great game, but especially because Atelier meruru is the worse atelier of the serie (for me). Even worse than atelier iris 3 on ps2.

Horrible characters, SUPER-annoying heroine, meh gameplay, 0 difficulty (and Really, 0, even for the time managment, nothing, nada, niet), non-existant story, etc...

I only did this game because of characters from Atelier rorona (rorona/sterk/Ellis ? And the king).
