MMO's on consoles don't exactly create the hype people think they do. It can be successful, but it's not something people really go crazy over in my opinion. Plus, FFXIV has been out a long time on the PC alone. It's essentially port vs brand new game. Yeah, TF mirrors it in terms of platform availability, but it isn't four years old either.

ARR came out late last summer it is not the same game that came out 4 years ago. And to your 1st point, do you think it is possible that the reason no one gets hyped for a console MMO is because they traditionally sucked? FFXIV could be a watershed game for the Genre as it relates to consoles. Remember in a time before Goldeneye no one got hyped for FPS games on a console? You know why? Because before that they were just not that good.

FFXIV is the most inovative game currently availible on an eight gen console. Not because it adds much new to the MMO genre, well except it is playable on a console... i guess that is kind of a big deal.

It still holds the same name of FFXIV first and foremost. Obviously MMOs are gonna change a bit years down the line. I mean, does WoW look the same like when it first started? No. It's not like people consider the expansion packs entire new games though. As for the Goldeneye comparison, no console MMO has captured the attention of the gaming populace the way Goldeneye did for shooters on consoles. This is not the Goldeneye of MMOs.

As for it being innovative because it's on a console, it's only that way by default. Hell, Elder Scolls Online is just around the corner, so it's not gonna be the only MMO for very long. Not to mention the other MMOs that have appeared last gen as well. It's a port. Not a bad word, but even as ARR, it's still a port of a game that came out last summer. Even Tomb Raider managed to only really grab about 500,000 copies with their port. Granted, that's quite a few copies, but this isn't a new era where most people are going to get more excited over a port than a new game. All I'm saying is, don't expect a game whose brand has been around for decades and whose origins started out on the PC to a very bad launch to all of sudden become the toast of the town. It's a port and an option for PS4 fans to have.
