I understand where you're coming from. For me, if there's nothing, then I find there to be a visual problem. What is watching some sort of movie or playing some game (mature obviously) if it's been completely censored? My brain will be putting up red flags for continuity.
Then I guess there can be a gore option (some games have it) and we can all be at rest.

Moving onto Gears of War. I thought the blood effect was good, but the gore was stupid... blocky chunks? What the heck?
