Nintendo has made many mistakes too...

Nintendo made it hard for companies to make versions for all consoles of a generation. PS3 and X360 got almost all of the 3rd Party games because they had comparable power. Porting these games to the Wii would have been expensive.

Nintendo made the WiiMote the standard controller. This also made porting games more expensive... The Balance Board showed that optional controller can sell well... The WiiMote could have been an optional controller.

The Wii U has made exactly the same mistakes... So not developing a Wii U version can be seen as a plausible decision. Nintendo made it difficult to port for the Wii on purpose and now the sales figures are not to convincing too.
