If you look up the technical definition of AAA, it usually means a combination of a big budget, big team of developers, and is also well marketed.
Indy/A games are the exact opposite with a small team of developers working on a small budget, and they mostly rely on gaming events like pax, and gamers posting gameplay on youtube for marketing.
Of coarse since the technical definition of a indy game is a game that is made by an independent developer, it is theoretically possible to have a AAA Indy game. The only reason we don't see any AAA Indy games often is because developers usually don't have enough money to develop an AAA game independently, and so they have to sign a deal with a publisher to back thier game, and provide marketing.
Star Citizen is a good example of an AAA Indy game.
