Seeing a few of my friends enter the video gaming industry (one as an animator, and another as a programmer) and occasionally let go from a company when a game doesn't attain a certain amount of sales has dramatically widened my perspective as a consumer. It's easy to forget that these companies, no matter how large, are ultimately formed by people, and when consumers pirate or attempt to damage these companies in some way, it's usually hard-working people that are affected by it.
