Yet they can hit 1080p60 if they want to. However devs are choosing effects over 1080p60. It will be the same next gen. If consoles can comfortably do 1080p60 next gen, they can do 1440p30, which is 1.78 x 1080p in pixel count. From 720p to 1080p is 2.25x the pixel count. 1080p -> 1440p much smaller step. The same step would be 1620p.

Plus Gen 7 to Gen 8 has been a smaller step because Gen 7 was a bit ahead of the curve, while Gen 8 is back to being on the conservative side compared to pc.

If you say so then dude, if you say so.

I'll be back later, just going to go tell my colleagues that we've been going about game development all wrong, we spent all this time trying to make games as good as we could on the hardware, when all we had to do was "want to" and those meaningless things called hardware constraints would no longer be a problem.

So you're saying the ps4 is less powerful than ps3?
Ridge racer 7 ran solid 1080p60 without a hitch. Wipeout HD did some resolution scaling but stayed very close to 1080p60. Surely the ps4 can maintain 1080p60 as well with less demanding visuals.  Resogun is 1080p60. WiiU is producing 1080p60 games. As long as devs prioritize visuals, solid 60fps won't be the norm.
It's all about priorities. That incredibly detailed target render or 60fps.
