For reference Europe - 740 million - 34 million Wiis, 33 million PS3s, 25 million 360s - 92 million consoles or 12% North America - 528 million - 46 million 360s, 45 million Wiis, 28 million PS3s - 119 million or 22% Japan - 127 million - 13 million Wiis, 10 million PS3s, 2 million 360s - 25 million or 19% Rest of the World - 5,605 million - 11 million PS3s, 9 million Wiis, 8 million 360s - 28 million or .004% Now, we know why this is largely due to socio-economic factors in many countries. China is definitely the sleeping giant of the industry by sheer scale alone if a few percent are able to buy it that is 300 million with the financial means. Of those if 10% follow through that is a huge leap and accomplihment. I actually think Microsoft is smart here to make games less to try to break in the market as plenty of potential. Of course there is risk as no one as far as I can tell has had significant success in that market. |
it's not a terrible idea to do business in china but i hate doing business in china. at my last company we worked with a chinese partner for 2 years only to find out they took that 2 years to reverse engineer our software and make their own version of it. after all the investment we make $0 in return.
at my current company we've actually made a few bucks but we have to apply to the chinese government to allow us to move those funds from china to the US and the process is long, difficult, and can be reject for no real reason.
i honestly hope MS can take china for all the money it can. i really fucking hate doing business there. it is a miserable system set up to intentionally fuck over foreign parties. but i would be elated to see MS sell millions of console in china if for no other reason than to know that billions are being pulled out of china's broken system.
