I've heard the argument that 60fps will become standard on consoles before; in 1998 when the 6th gen was looming, then again in 2005 when the 7th was announced, then in 2012. Every time, devs continued to favour 30fps with more detail.

The differences is I am projecting this progress a generation ahead of those guesses.

It would be like me saying last gen, "720p 60fps will be the norm" , for the most part that's true, if they weren't so focused on squeezing as close to 1080p as possible and simply released these games at 720p most if not all would end up 60fps or as close to 60fps as they can get.

Next gen will be like that, but since 1080p will still be the norm the extra processing power will only be stretched so far by the minor resolution bump from 720-900p to 1080 leaving the rest for frame rates.

No it isn't, in any way.

The majority of both 7th and 8th gen games are still 30fps.

On the wiiu too? Okay.
