It's a great way to EV train early game, or get very precise EV's.
Horde Battle EV training works better post game.
I use both if I don't use the standard 252 / 252 / 4 spread.
A great example is the other day I was EV training a Hariyama.
I needed 252 Attack / 172 Defense / 84 Speed (total 508), which means I had 2 spare EV's that didn't matter.
First I infected her with Pokerus and gave her a Power Bracer.
Then went to route 19 with a Vileplume to cast Sweet Scent to guarentee a Horde battle.
Any pokemon with an AoE attack (I was using Nidoking with Sludge Wave) should be first in the party and Exp Share should be on.
I would only attack Weepinbell and Arbok hordes, each time gaining 50 attack EV's. Did this 6 times to reach 252 in attack.
Then I flew to Victory Road, equipped Power Belt, and fought only Geodude hordes. Did this 3 times = 150 Defense.
I then went to Super Training and did Golem mini game twice, each is 12 so 24, so now 174 (the 2 spare EV's are taken care of).
Finally I flew to route 15, equipped a Power Anklet, and only fought Murkrow hordes, did this 2 times which capped at 84.
