EA have said that all their new games for the PS4 and Xbox One are going to start at £54.99 too but kept it at $60 for the US

7th Gen RRP for UK was £50. Shops aren't stupid though and never really went above £40 (high street had to compete with supermarkets). CoD caused problems a couple of years back when the price went up £5 randomly, people were angry because a game that everyone wants went up and it felt like they were exploiting people. People still bought it though. 

In this new generation, the games are being upped to a new RRP which isn't getting reduced as much yet in retail either, leading to a higher overall price. In time, once more people buy the new gen, this will reduce I'm sure.
