The Vita is a hardcore gamer system. It doesnt surprise me that it sells alot of software.

The only problem is that it failed to his mass market.

To me the Vita is a system for a special group of hardcore gamers. Your statement sounds like "every hardcore gamer will automatically buy a Vita" which is wrong, in my opinion. But yes, only hardcore gamers would live with the proprietary memory solution and would praise the system like it's done on forums while the masses don't buy the system because they don't see why in the first place and most probably won't even if you would try to convince them for an hour.

It was haedcore gamers that also bought 3DO, for example, or a Turbo Grafx.

If its the proprietary memory cards that are holding it back, i wonder how the Playstation 1 and 2 ever survived.

Dont you think thats its a bit unfortunate to make such a big deal over a 20 euro memory card that usually comes bundled with the system or several games? No, its not. Its games, that is all.

Allowing non-proprietary cards would be to allow piracy in and effectively kill the system. Wich one do you prefer?
