Multiplatform gamers in the golden era of video games?

I actually started a multiplatform gamer then went solo when the N64 came out. I'm actually surprised by the idea that more people multiplatform now than back then. Consoles have gotten really expensive these days you know. The Wii is about the same price as the NES/SNES.
