DragonLord, I think what you're missing is that the people who would determine which system a FFVII remake goes to wouldn't be doing it because they think the game 'deserves' a remake. It seems beyond obvious that a Wii/DS/PSP remake would sell many more copies and cost much less than would a PS3/360 remake. Around half of all FF sales come from Japan, after all.

Yes, it's pretty clear that a very traditional RPG can be done better (prettier) on the 360/PS3 than on the Wii, DS, or PSP, but that's not really Square Enix's chief concern, and I don't see why that's at all relevant to the discussion.

Also, it's somewhat misleading to imply that a Wii remake wouldn't be an upgrade. A DS remake might be little more than a straight port, but the Wii is just a little bit more capable than the PS1. It can certainly do better than FFX or FFXII, and even those are much more technically impressive than FFVII.

First off, I'm not implying that the Wii wouldn't "look better"--it definitely would. I have a Wii (and enjoy it) and understand its improvements over the ps1 and ps2 (although most developers haven't been taking full advantage of that power and improvement).

Secondly, I agree that it would sell more copies on the DS---but going with that logic, why isn't FFXIII or FFvsXIII for the DS instead of the ps3?

FFXIII would obviously be cheaper to make and sell better on the DS or Wii. So why didn't SE just do that?

Because SE has a great working relationship with Sony (who owns 10% of SE), and SE has made their "CORE" FF games on the playstation since it has been around--FFVII, FFXIII, FFIX, FFX, FFXI (PS2/360/PC MMO), FFXII. And because sales aren't everything---MS, Nintendo, and Sony can "buy" games--making it well worth a developers time to make a game regardless of sales. Just look at the 360's RPG sales in Japan....yet, after Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, and Lost Odyssey, they are still making Tales of Vesperia, Cry On, etc. MS makes it worth their time and money regardless of sales.

In its history, it has been the spin-offs that go to other consoles or handhelds. SE are graphic whores to a degree. They love to have a high-tech, impressive as hell, CG overloaded, cutting edge "main" game with many spin-offs.

Lastly, I'm not God....neither are you. None of us know. It's all opinion. You have yours, I'll have mine. None of us are right until the day it happens or doesn't.

Um they were already working on FFXIII and FFvsXIII on the ps3. That would be a waste of money to just stop and make a ds version half way through it. Most remakes are on handhelds anyway. 1-6 was remade on gba , and 3and 4 and soon to be 5 were remade on ds. So I could definately see the later remakes to be on ds or ds2 psp or psp2.

Don't be so arrogant as to think that SE would only make games on the DS or Wii because that is the platform that would sell the most copies. As I said, it's about more than that.

Hell, the psp had already shown signs of flopping software sales and yet--Crisis Core and a Kingdom Hearts spin-off. Lol, I guarantee you'll see more SE games in the future on the psp too.

SE will continue to sell games on ALL platforms. How would you explain Infinite Undiscovery on the 360. They realize that they could sell more copies on a DS or Wii, and yet, they will make games for the 360 too.

The logic of:

"DS will sell most---so that is what they will make it on" simply isn't true.

I said most likely. The point of making a game is to make money. When a game is a remake they usually want to spend the least money possible , and get the most money possible. To develop a game on the ds you spend about a 10th-100th of what you would have to if you made a game on the ps3/xbox360. You also get the most money for that cheap price to pay. Your point would be more valid if it was a new game , but remakes are meant to get the most money you could get while not spending too much. Spinoffs and remakes are too different things spin offs are new games where you are happy with a little bit. You already see SE remaking all of the older FF to the ds. These games are selling good , and once they run out of the older ones they are going to start to port the newer ones to the next ds. It would be the smartest thing to do. Especially when you don't have to do that much work to port it since the ds and ps1 are closer in power than the ps3 and ps1.
