I can maybe understand XIII's cost due to time it was in development, XV will have the same issue. But XIII-2 still costing 30 million? That's a lot. Sequels are meant to be that much cheaper because you have the resources. But then, most sequels don't make that much of a change gameplay wise.
CoD games are released yearly, now 3 companies are working on them at any one time. SquEnix could use this idea. The sales will come as it's what people want, new FF games, then sequels can come from those 3 companies if needed. But they won't need to release yearly, jsut ever 2 or more.
That or SquEnix might be better of on a more production line setup for FF games, a team working on music, art, character designs, and when each part is done, hand it down the line, with a director to over see their current project. Sequels can be done by a separate team using those assets.
This is all said in the plain knowledge I have no idea how games companies spend their money.
