Sony can still salvage the Vita in the west...and here's how

Japan is a country that prefers handhelds over consoles. The rest of the world doesnt. also, Sony turned around the Vita's foturnes in Japan early last year with the price cut, soul sacrifice and other games. it had good sales and proved to be able to rise in sales when games release, it is also doing good software there. Sony saved it in Japan before it was too late. but they did nothing to do so in USA/EU and the rest of the world.

The only people to blame for Vita and WiiU's sad sales are Sony and Nintendo them selfs. 

I completely agree that Sony and Nintendo are to blame for their products, even though I love both.

I don't think the handheld market is dead in the west quite yet, the 3DS still has relatively strong sales. If Sony offered a Vita/PS4 bundle just to test the water, I could see the Vita getting a huge spike in sales especially if the price savings is $100.
