Changing gamertag should stay $10. It makes you commit to that choice. Besides, at least you have the choice to change it. I don't think you can on PSN.

If I remember correctly it's free to change on PSN, but I could be wrong. I know that Steam lets you change your handle at will for free. I don't really see why free changes would be an issue as long as they are limited to a certain period of time, why would you need to commit to a gamertag, people's opinions on things change overtime.

Take my gamertag history for instance, my first gamertag on the original Xbox was Caveman, I chose it because I lived in a town named after a local cave at the time, but after I made it Geico made the caveman commercial series and people started making "It's so easy a Caveman could do it" jokes about me on Xbox Live, and because of the fee I was forced to create a whole new account, because new accounts are free unlike gamertag changes. I thought my current gamertag was cool when I chose it 7 years ago, but then game developers started naming achievements after it and a slew of copycat gamertags popped up, and now I'm stuck with it because I don't want to lose my achievements by creating a new account and am too poor to afford a $10 gamertag change, lol.

Just checked, you can't change on PSN. But yeah I'd imagine it takes some amount of work to move things over on Xbox Live. There's a reason that's there. Plus I think it archives your old gamertag.
