I was not expecting the changes I've already encountered in FFX HD. I was like 11 hours in and did not remember the stunning lack of ability spheres when I played in the PS2 days. It was bugging me and then I noticed my old guide pointed out that the Basilisk is supposed to drop them but they weren't. Had to dig into Google pretty hard to find out the Extract abilities could be used to get spheres off most any enemy, and sure enough those weren't in my old guide either. Must be an International Edition thing.
tl;dr - to get more ability spheres, use Wakka's extract ability skill
