@ mafoo.. Gotta call you out on that so I checked out the Dell site, customized some models to try to get similar specs as their Apple counterparts. All prices are in Canadian.
Apple White 13" Macbook for 1150$
Dell Vostro 15" for 1190$ but with a faster CPU/more RAM and a Geforce 8400gs.
Not bad I guess but it's not exactly competitive.
Now we got the Macbook Pro for 2100$ against the XPS M1530.
Dell clobbers it with a bigger HDD, more ram for 1500$.
iMac 2.0ghz Core 2 duo for 1300$
Dell Inspiron 530 with a quad core proc., 2 gigs more RAM, better video card, bigger HDD for 980$.
I'm not even going to check out the high end laptops/desktops or LCDs. Just glancing over the specs/price makes my mind boggle. I understand spending a hundred or two extra to have the OS or the looks of Apple but when it gets to 500$-1000$, it's ridiculous. Also keep in mind that I checked out the Dell site only, if you look around for laptops/LCDs or build your own desktop, you can shave off even more $.
@rugger.. I agree with what you say about people not knowing how to build a computer but it doesn't cost that much to get someone to do it for you. 15$-20$ is the usual price around here(Toronto) and it's usually free if you buy the majority of parts from a shop.
