A 5 year old computer that cost 400$ surely cant play most of the modern day games? Perhaps a modern pc that costs around that much...

Was that a mistake?

Edit: For that amount of money 5 years ago you could probably get a HD5770 and an i3 in late 2009. I really dont think that setup would be ideal for gaming as of right now. And thats excluding other mandatory costs.

i got for ~$500 an i7-860@3.8ghz, 4gb ram and a hd5770 late 2009
while you can play them you wont be able to at 1080p60 on high, at best low-medium with 2x aa maybe 30fps on medium/high without aa at best (bf4, thief etc.)

thats maybe why i upgraded 6month ago, but only because my mothers pc died and I gave her my old pc and I then got a new one for ~$500 again.
now I got an i5-4670k@4.4ghz, 8gb ram, and a hd7870/rx270

now with that you can play those multiplat games like thief in a higher res and fps than the ps4/bone counterpart, but thats only because the console games are at the beginning and they don't know how to optimize it 100% for consoles.

I hope I can keep this pc for the whole gen, maybe at the end of the gen 1080p30 medium only, but thats fine.

for console exclusives you still need a console. getting a ps4 soon in addition to my wiiu.
