The gap in ABSOLUTE terms will never disappear; however it may get smaller in RELATIVE terms. Let me illustrate;
Let's assume,
PS4 current performance : 160
XB1 current performance : 100
Let's increase the performance of both machines, but add that XB1 has more room to grow, kind of catching up in a way:
PS4 current performance : 160 * 1.6 = 256 (60% in relative terms, 94 in absolute terms)
XB1 current performance : 100 * 1.8 = 180 (80% in relative terms, 80 in absolute terms)
As you see, the absolute gap has not diminished, but increased on the contrary from 60 to 76! However, the relative gap has actually decreased from 60% (160/100 - 1) to only 42% (256 / 180 -1) !
