Originally the American general election was never about electing the President of the United States. The way the system worked way back was simply this: The general populace voted on elected officials locally and statewide, but the only federal official they could vote on was their congressman. That is why the electoral college was setup in the first place.
Now we have a 2 year long beauty contest that parades on TV and in towns around America. It offends my eyes to be honest. But it would seem that the contest is finally drawing towards a close, at least in selecting the candidates. I will vote McCain simply to stop this country from having a McGovern style lib who has the gift of oratory (or pandering) from ascending to the most powerful seat in the world.
I have my issues with John McCain but at least he hasn't sat under the hate-filled preaching of his pastor for 20 years.
