| daactualfact said: I'm wondering if this ever happened in a console war. The Wii has been stuck at the same 44.3% for about 2 months. The Ps3 was rising at a point, beating 360, then it stuck at the 21.3% for about like 2 weeks. Has this ever happened in a console war? (answer the question people.) |
They're not "canceling each other out" -- they're selling at the rate of their market share percentage. For example, the Wii is selling about 44% of the next gen consoles every week and the PS3 is selling about 21%. As you get more marketshare, you must sell more units just to maintain those numbers.
These numbers aren't exact -- last week, for example, the Wii sold about 49% of the total market share, the PS3 sold about 28%, and the 360 sold about 23%.
This doesn't mean, of course, that the Wii will approach 49% total market share or the PS3 will approach 28% total market share any time soon. If you look at the raw numbers, which are necessary to see how many units behind having "X" market share each console is, you'd notice that they have to sell more than you'd expect. For example, the market is currently about 50 million consoles, but for Nintendo to gain less than 6 percent of market share, the Wii will need to outsell the PS3 and 360 combined by almost 6 million units. That would require *huge* sales, and, more importantly, huge shipments.
Likewise, for the PS3 to reach 25% it needs to sell millions more than the Xbox 360. And that's compounded if the Wii sells well.
