From a consumer stand point I suppose that build high quality and sell at cost would be desirable.
Calling it now. Facebook is going to make Second Life or Home out of Facebook and those other services with VR. So basically advertising. If they are as smart as Linden there might be some economic gain to be had. Though if they build the device so nicely they might price it out of consumer's hands limiting possible ad revenue.
