I'll take it if it is what people are interpreting this rumor/news as; I still have every retail PS1 and PS2 game I've bought to date, although less than 10% of those are games I'd care to replay.

More realistically, I'd expect to see the games for sale on the PSN Store with the higher res rendering for polygon/3D games and upscaling for rasterized cell animated games. I'm not sure what the advantage would be for SCE to add optical game BC to the PS4 well after the launch other than as a bullet point for Playstation brand consumers who have old game collections.

We'll see.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. Sure, it would be a selling point for the PS4.  But Sony would not see a dime for all the old titles people would be playing from disc. I expect them to have a library of titles available for purchase on the store. If they allow disc based games, then that is gravy.

That being said, I personally will not be affected by it one way or the other.  My computer, PS3, PS4, XBOX360, XBOX, Wii U, and N64 are all hooked up to the same TV. My PC is more than capable of running the emulator PCSX2 at 1080p with antialiasing at 60fps. I can either hook up my PS4 controller or my XBOX360 controller to my PC and I'm good to go. I already have a high def PS1/PS2 gaming option connected to a large TV. So I have no need to re-purchase my old games and Sony will therefore not see a dime from me for re-purchases...ever.

But if they do a solid for the fanbase and allow discs to be used in emulation, I will be more than willing to return the favor and purchase more digital games that I do not already own instead of trying to track them down on ebay. Doing nice stuff for fans goes a long way with me.
