Great. Now people can finally see that it's not the price holding the X1 back.

So what is holding it back?

Best ask its detractors. Also all the people that switched from 360 to PS4.

Bad press and some bad press, sprinkled with a bit bad press, dropped in a pile of bad press. Did I miss something?

Very few people still care about the bad press, it was nearly a year ago afterall. Most people forgot or just didn't care about it to start with. Price is the only thing holding the Xbox One back from reclaiming it's lead markets and coming in at a close 2nd globally.

USA maybe and even then PS4 would be a close 2nd. UK I think PS4 will keep the lead. And the sales difference across all the other markets in favour of PS4 will be such that close 2nd for global sales will be something MS can only dream of. I think there will be daylight between global PS4 and Xb one sales by the end of this generation. I think the closest Xb one can get to PS4 in market share is 45%PS4 - 35%Xb one - 20% Wii U. But I can see Ps4 possibly achieving >50% market share, esp if Wii U doesn't improve.
