As someone who has used Dolphin(Wii Emu) I can tell you that native 1080p for older titles is possible and quite beautiful. I tried Xenoblade Chronicles in 1080p and added AA and it was just great. The textures won't look better but the whole picture is extremely sharp, which doesn't happen with a mere upscale.

I have heard that emulator rumor a few months ago from somewhere else so it might come true. I'm not particularly interested in using the old discs but it would be a great profit opportunity for Sony to put even a fraction of popular PS1/2 titles into the store.

That's not native. They didn't go in and recreate all of the graphical elements of the games. That's a really good upscaler and engine over the existing 480p native game.
