Awesome review, and glad to see that unlike the other game, you can switch between characters here. Also, impressive score considering your equation. I seriously need to sit down and play through an old-school Castlevania game. I've only played Lords of Shadows, but that ain't the taste of most Castlevania hardcore fans, and certainly it is a departure from the traditional Castlevania style.

 

Is it Aria of Sorrow recommended then for a first-timer like me?

Yes, it would be perfect as your first Castlevania game! You could then play the other ones on GBA and then go to the DS games. If you like those, then you could then try the older ones! The GBA and DS ones are more "RPG like" and the older ones are more like platformers. If you like those genres you will probably like them, also the music is excellent!
