The role isn't limited to you so you're not important at all (inherent problem with MMORPGs), and it also proves that through it's awful quests.

the main storyline does not share anything with normal quest. your role in a party is important for a successful battle in the main storyline, and in the cutscenes they specifically mention you.

I haven't played much of it although I'll say that story quests are good, but normal quests are just pointless (they're basically useless filler). Your role in a party is important for any MMO or multiplayer game
