The 1985 game was on PC, ran through DOS.

So this is actually the first Gauntlet game in almost 30 years to arrive on the PC, provided you ignored emulation.

Interesting, so this is a sequel or can I get into this game without playing the previous games ;o?

You definately do not need to have any experience with the other games.
