Yeah, 1080i-only CRT televisions aren't that much different from 480p/480i CRTs. Their effective resolution is much closer to 960*540 (though I don't think most are even that good) than 1920x1080. There's a reason those 1080i-only televisions can't accept a 720p signal.

Thankfully, they're no longer in production and they're slowly being replaced in most homes. I think anyone with an actual HDTV (even if it's only 720p/1080i) can easily see the difference in Blu-ray.
