Is it certain that falling behind could result in a loss of third party support? If we reflect on the past decade, it has become increasingly clear that sales do not really matter.

1. If you are Nintendo, you will get the short end of the stick regardless of how much third party software your platforms move.

2. If you are Sony, you will get good treatment regardless of how much in the toilet your system is. The most recent example is the Vita which picked up third party support during a time when it was outsold roughly 6:1 by the 3DS in Japan and was an as good as dead platform in the Western markets.

3. If you are Microsoft, you are like Sony minus some of the benefits from Japan. So if the Xbox One falls behind the PS4 4:1 in LTD sales, we should still expect it to get pretty much the same games as the PS4 (except Japanese games, of course).

1. Is there a conspiracy against Ninty, or should Ninty just blame itself for this?

2. Probably 3rd parties think it's in their best interest to keep alive an alternative to Ninty in portables.

3. MS is very rich and powerful, this brings some benefits almost automatically and competitors have just to live with it and do their best to compete.
