I think Titanfall sales will only be disappointing to those thinking that it was the 2nd coming of Jesus, and would cause a titanic shift in console sales.

It's highly probable that a sizable chunk of people that were really excited about Titanfall already had bought their XB1s. It's also highly probable that a lot of the more educated buyers would rather spend $200 on a new GPU for almost any half-decent PC to have a better quality experience. And it's also probable that a good chunk of the 360 crowd that clamors for that kind of title isn't ready to plunk down $500 on a system when they still have the option to buy it on their existing system.

I mean the market for $500 and even $400 consoles historically isn't all that large. And I'd wager that most of the people who can afford such a thing have already bought theirs. In past gens, the install base didn't truly start to fly up until the consoles were at the $299 and under level. So you will also have a sizable group of people who just can't justify, or just plain can't afford to buy these consoles even if they wanted them badly.

With the recent releases of Ghosts and BF4, I also wonder if there's some FPS fatigue as well for genre fans that aren't the ultra-dedicated 8hr a day types.

Yes this could be a reason too. I mean ok US/UK players are big FPS fans but buying 10 FPS every years at some point you have to be a bit bored ! Especially since they are not very innovative for most of them.

I guess we will have to wait for the sales of the 1st real next gen COD and next Halo to confirm or infirm that.

Then i think the "friends factor" is also a very important point when it comes to FPS. Where and what my friends are going to play. You might be tempted to buy a X1/Titanfall bundle but if nobody or not many of your friends will do the same or can't afford it for now, it's likely that you are going to make the same choice just to stick with the majority of them. Because obviously if you have to pay 500$ for then have to play alone while all your friends will keep having fun on their side it sucks. The servers are not shared and the X1 and 360 players won't be able to play together on the same servers, which could have made a difference on this point i believe.
